Mad About FilmCamp!
We are pleased to have Lian Pek, director of ‘Mad About English!’ joining us. ‘Mad About ‘English!’ a documentary feature about China’s mad rush to master the English language ahead of the Olympics became the top grossing Singaporean documentary film of all time in the Singapore cinemas, winning the South East Asian Awards for Best Documentary at the Yogyakarta Film Festival Dokumenter 2008, the Elle Award for Film of the Year.
Lian's participation in Filmcamp will add to the diversity of the list of our current featured presenters.
The curator has arranged for a screening of ‘Mad About English!’ during FilmCamp at the Screening Space, and he's wondering if he should set "Mad About Filmcamp!" as the theme for Filmcamp Singapore 2010. It's just a thought.
Happy Holidays!
The holidays are here again, and we didn't want to be left out from having our own wishlist.
So here goes:
- many campers having fun at Filmcamp, meeting new people and engaging in discussions
- more shorts from campers
- a HD cam or two would be nice
- Mel Gibson speaking at next year's Filmcamp Singapore
- Hilary Swank's manager stops bringing her roles like the one she had in "The Core" or "Freedom Writers"
On behalf of Filmcamp team of powerful superheroes* and myself, I'd like to wish Merry Christmas & Happy Hannukah to all our film-lovin' friends.
Happy holidays and happy filming!

Chris Gomez (@chrisgomez), founder and curator of the first FilmCamp says: “FilmCamp is fully run by volunteers. Emulating the participatory model of BarCamp, it is like a BarCamp for filmmaking.”
“We’ve got some very good speakers who have graciously agreed to spend some time with us to share their experience in filmmaking. At the same time, participants at all levels can share at FilmCamp. Everyone is empowered to speak, present or share - even at the level of a beginner. There is no yardstick for measurement. It’s the sharing that counts. Come. Participate. Share. Ask questions! The spotlight’s on the participants!”
FilmCamp is born out of a desire to share and learn about the mystery behind filmmaking in an open environment. FilmCamp is an independent, grassroot-run, inclusive event. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. Participants - filmmakers and non-filmmakers alike are invited to participate and share!
The inaugural FilmCamp unconference wiill be held on 31 January 2010 at the National Library Board building in Singapore.
